山中一毅

サックス奏者 / 作編曲家 / 音楽教育家

さいたま市生まれ。14 歳でサックスを始め、大学からジャズを始める。23 歳の時にジャズミュージシャンとして歩み出すことを決意する。リーダーとしてこれまで 3 枚のアルバムをリリース。2020 年にスペインの名門レーベルFresh Sound New Talent よりリリースされた“Dancer In Nirvana”は、アメリカ、イギリス、日本のジャズ専門誌でいずれも高い評価を得る。計 9 年間に及ぶアメリカでの活動ののち、2025 年春より再び活動の拠点を日本に移す。

これまでに Russ Lossing(piano)、Cameron Brown(bass)、Gerald Cleaver(drums)、Billy Mintz(drums)、Ben Monder(guitar)、Todd Neufeld(guitar)、Allan Mednard(drums)といった名手たちとライブで共演。日本でも様々なグループを主宰し、東京のライブハウスを中心に演奏するほか、関西・北陸・東海にもツアーで度々訪れる。また、若い世代への教育活動にも積極的に取り組み、特に母校である京都大学のビッグバンドとジャズ研究会には定期的に指導に赴いている。

1年間の日本滞在ののち、再びニューヨークへ渡る

SIM(School for Improvisational Music)のサマーインテンシブに参加

日本へ帰国し、東京を拠点に活動を始める

Kazuki Yamanaka

Saxophonist / Composer / Arranger / Educator

Kazuki Yamanaka is a Japanese saxophonist, composer, improvisor who has released three albums as leader. His second album “Dancer In Nirvana” was recorded in 2019 with pianist Russ Lossing, bassist Cameron Brown, and drummer Gerald Cleaver and released in 2020 via the world-renowned Spanish label Fresh Sound New Talent. The album has gained favorable reviews from the leading jazz media Jazz Journal (UK), JazzTrail (US), and Jazz Japan.

Born in Saitama, Japan, Yamanaka moved to New York first in 2012 to study at State University of New York Purchase College, where he took a master degree of music in 2014. He studied with the greatest masters both inside and outside the school such as Jon Gordon (sax), Gary Smulyan (sax), Hal Galper (piano), Jon Faddis (trumpet), John Abercrombie (guitar), Steve Wilson(sax), Miguel Zenon (sax), Tony Malaby (sax), Ralph Alessi (trumpet) and Lee Konitz (sax).

Yamanaka has performed with some of the finest musicians in the avant-garde jazz scene such as Russ Lossing (piano), Cameron Brown (bass), Gerald Cleaver (drums), Billy Mintz (drums), Ben Monder (guitar), Todd Neufeld (guitar), Allan Mednard (drums) having headlined performances at Ibeam, Scholes Street Studio, ShapeShifter Lab in Brooklyn of New York City. He has also toured Japan many times since 2014 and has performed at Pit-Inn (Tokyo), Sometime (Tokyo), Le Club Jazz (Kyoto), Mokkiriya (Kanazawa), Jazz Flash (Niigata), Lifetime (Shizuoka), Blue Note (Nara) and many others.

Yamanaka had been back in Japan from 2020 to 2023 and performed regularly in Tokyo area as well as toured occasionally within the country. After three years in Japan he returned to the US in 2023 and lived in Philadelphia, where he joined the legendary the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz as a teaching assistant. A year in Philadelphia was followed by being back in New York for 8 months, where he performed several times as a leader and recorded with his longtime collaborator Russ Lossing, Cameron Brown, and Billy Mintz. This latest recording will be released soon as Yamanaka’s 3rd album.

He has returned again to Japan in April 2025 and is currently based in Tokyo.
